Five volunteers in 14.12 hours on 12 and 20 December 2019 logged 11,113 items of concern within the Discover Polk CBD footprint! The bulk of the findings were gum residue (64% of items), cigarette butts (19.43%) and general street litter (9.21%). Graffiti (including stickers and etchings) represents about 3.36% and hazardous material (human/animal waste, needles and glass) close to 0.6%. Other categories that were counted included sidewalk stains (3.4%), 17 large items (dumping; 0.15%), trash can issues (0.05%), damaged street furniture (0.04%), and other issues (including trees and weeds; 0.28%). The final report will be presented at the 8 January Board meeting and will then be posted to this website. These data will allow us to prioritize our clean and safe targets, and follow up audits will be conducted approximately quarterly. Community comments and feedback are encouraged.
